This past weekend saw the inaugural Edinburgh Softball League tournament. Loretto playing fields were our hosts as 8 teams battled it out over two days to decide the title. The format of the tournament saw a straight round-robin followed by the top 4 and the bottom 4 playing off for the cup and the plate.

Saturday began under the East Coast Haar but this did not dampen the play and at the end of the day the table saw a three way tie at the top with the Haar Hitters, Souls and Dodgers all sitting on 4-1. Sunday saw the weather improve and the rest of the tournament was played under bright blue skies. The play was again exceptional and at the end of the round robin the table sat at:

1. Haar Hitters
2. Souls
3. Dodgers
4. Storks
5. Demons
6. Unicorns
7. Capitals
8. Terrawatts

In the plate semi finals, the seedings held with the Demons overcoming the Terrawatts and Unicorns taking down the Capitals. The final was an extremely well played game which was tight until the Demons pulled away to take the plate 16-6.

In the Cup semis, the Storks got the better of the Haar Hitters with the Souls coming out on top against the Dodgers. With all eyes on the final, a back and forth game was the fitting end to the weekend. Both teams put on a show with some excellent fielding and hitting with the Souls taking the victory in a 13-10 win.

This brought down the curtain on the first Edinburgh Tournament but it will not be the last…

As we enter week 15 of the season, we have almost all the final places confirmed. Both Souls and Bolts have had a run away season, while the 2nd,3rd and 4rth teams have fought it out.

Last week saw the Storks seal the 2nd place spot in the Premier league, while in what could be game of the week – Vultures v Unicorns – will decide 2nd place in Division 1.
